What is a “Sub”?
A Sub is a shared group (family, friends, roommates, etc.) who access a subscription service together with one account.
In which countries is Subset available?
Subset is currently only available in the United States. Want Subset in your country? Let us know! Reach out to email@example.com.
How do I add people to a Sub?
You can text invites to your friends directly from the app.
How do I remove someone from a shared Sub?
Use the ‘Remove’ function in your Sub, and be sure to change the Sub’s password afterward.
When can I start using a service that was shared with me?
Once you join a Sub you can immediately access the subscription’s login information and start using the service. You’ll find the login information in the ‘Sub Details’ section of the shared Sub.
Is sharing my subscriptions legal?
Different subscription providers have different rules around sharing. Subset strives to ensure that every provider we list in the app allows sharing, but these rules can change, so double-check with your provider to ensure sharing is allowed.
Is sharing my password safe?
Your password is secure in the Subset App, but we recommend that you only create Subs and share passwords with people you trust.
What if the service (or specific plan) I want to share isn’t listed in the app?
You can create a ‘Custom Sub’ for any subscription or subscription plan that isn’t currently in the app. To create a custom Sub tap the home icon and scroll down to ‘Share Custom Sub’.
What if I can’t access a Sub that I was invited to?
Make sure that the phone number you enter into Subset is the same as the number your friend sent the invite to.
What if my four-digit authentication code won’t work?
Please try again. We know that sometimes it doesn’t work on the first attempt. We’re working to fix this!
How is my money transferred?
Subset uses two secure, trusted services to verify users and transfer money. We use Plaid to link your chosen bank account and Dwolla to transfer payments between users.
Is my banking information secure?
Yes! All of your personal and banking information is highly secure. Our payment and banking partners use internationally recognized security standards for data privacy and encryption.
How does Subset make money?
Subset receives 10% of the money that a sharer pays. For example, if you ask a friend to contribute $5 to one of your subscriptions, Subset will charge that friend $5.50—$5.00 will go to you and $0.50 will go to Subset. This fee helps us cover the costs of account setup and recurring payments.
How often am I charged for a shared Sub?
Subset sends money from all members of a Sub to the Sub owner once a month, so you will be charged monthly. The date varies depending on when Sub members joined.
Will I get some of my money back if I leave a Sub?
Unfortunately, we can’t transfer partial money back to former Sub members.
I was removed from a Sub, will I get my money back?
Unfortunately, we can’t transfer money back, so please only join Subs from friends you trust.
How long will it take before I receive my first payment from my friends?
Subset initiates the payments once a friend accepts your Sub invitation. The payments can take up to 3-5 days to settle between you and your friends.
What if my bank account won’t link?
Contact firstname.lastname@example.org so we can help you get set up.
What if my bank is not listed?
Try searching for your bank. If you still can’t find it, we’re so sorry! We’re working hard to add more banks to our service.
